Hi,

I want to update my 10.8.5 system to Mavericks now that 10.9.2 is out. However, I have a windows partition (boot camp), which I would like to remain untouched.

After doing a bit of research, it seems that I can install Mavericks over the top of 10.8.5, restart my mac while holding command+R, and then apparently there's a "clean" option, which erases and reinstalls the mac partition. Is this true? Does it re-download 10.9.2, or does it just know what files to remove / keep?

EDIT: Also, do I have to "suspend" my MS Office 2011 license, and then reactivate it after installation, or do I even need to worry about it?

Thanks.

I think you are overly complicating this. :)

If your current system is working okay, there is no need to erase the drive and do a "clean" install.

Just download Mavericks from the App Store and start the installer and it will install over top of Mountain Lion and all your apps and settings will still be there.

Backup first just to be safe.
