If you have OS 10.1 or below, do you pretty much have to do an erase and install to get it back on or can you install but just in a differn't system folder?
 
Thanks for the info, so I guess it's possible to have os 10.1 installed on a non HFS+ volume then? I guess you probably cannot convert to HFS+ if it's not already without formatting. Thanks for the info, I guess if 10.1 is installed and not on HFS+ then you have to erase the disk to re install? Or can you reinstall in the same system folder just not a different one?
 
Can you go into a bit more detail about what exactly it is you're trying to do... and why you're doing it with the very early and unrefined Mac OS 10.1.
