quick question about digital audio out and Macbook Pro 5,5

I've done some searching but I'm a little confused.

I have a 09 Macbook Pro 5,5 with one minijack audio port I've used for headphones. Am I correct that could use this to output digital audio to my amplifier (5.1)?

What cable would I use? Can somebody send me a link for breakout boxes for my laptop or cables? I'd like to use it with Vudu and HDX with surround.

It is an optical audio out port, thus you need an optical IN on your amplifier.

The MBP is also capable of doing optical audio. If your 5.1 system has an optical audio in, in the back, you'll simply need a toslink cable from the laptop to the amp.

I've never seen a toslink cable. So one end is a mini audio jack and the other end is an optical cable connector?

Pricey, seems like a luxury item. I can see where it would be handy but that price! Ouch!
