I have a late 2008 macbook , while watching q movie on it I noticed that the screen quality is not that great . moving a bit right or left will highly change the picture , black levels seem really bad . As far as I am concerned , ipads and iphone 4 have a much higher quality screens.

Any way, i wanted to know if Apple ships higher quality displays on their macbooks and macbook air currently . I know macbooks got retina screens now , but I am talking about the no e retina ones

Funnily enough, the newer panels from the Pro are electrically compatible with the ones from the Late 2008 MacBook, and my L2008 MacBook currently has a 2011 MacBook Pro display in it, which improves the quality greatly. The Air displays aren't compatible however.

Hope this helps.

Interesting, I have wondered about this - would the display happily fit and sit in an old MB display housing? Having just picked up an old late '07 MB the one thing that gripes me is the display - I think this was the last model before they started putting LED backlights in them.

Late 2008 Macbook is still a bad display. It's the one problem I have with my unibody machine. I'll get it to last until the MBP this summer comes out and sell it on Ebay.

But i bet its hard to install a newer display plus its too expensive,

Any way they do mot sell them separately, do they?

You'd have to purchase from ifixit or ebay. It's going to be expensive if it even works. I don't know about the sizes but I'd assume they are similar. (Not much has changed with the unibodies.) It's also not for the faint of heart apparently to do the switch.

Are we to expect even better displays soon or are the current ones sufficient enough?

I talk about the regular macbooks and air , and is there any difference in quality between these two?

The LCD panels for 2008-2011 are compatible between each other, not the display assembly.
