When you see the low battery warning, save your work and close all applications. Keep your computer turned on until it goes to sleep.

After your computer goes to sleep, turn it off or allow it to sleep for five hours or longer.

Connect the power adapter and leave it connected until the battery is fully charged.

You can use your computer during this time.

I'm a little confused on the wording. So I can either turn the computer off by holding the power button or I can let the computer sleep for 5 hours?

Also one last question. Hibernation is for when the battery is going to die right? So even when the battery dies and the ram wipes you still have a "bookmark" of where you left off?

Thanks for your help fellas.

Whether you power it off or let it sleep, let it do so for at least 5 hours.

Even though the terminology may be different, your understanding of the concept is correct.

This should answer most, if not all, of your battery questions: Apple Notebook Battery FAQ

Apple's steps are a little misleading (the laptop turns itself off). Once the laptop shuts down from lack of power, let it alone for 5 or more hours, then plug the charger in and let it fully recharge.

Also, you're correct about hibernation.
