Couldn't find any information about this. Do videos in Safari always play in full screen as on other iPhones, or can does it play "in place" allowing you to continue browsing the page while the video plays, as on iPad?

It plays full screen in safari on the 6+. You either have to get the YouTube app or user a browser with a UA Faker to play a video inside of the page.
