Quick question: List view icons displayed sporadically the first time?

Just wondering if this is a known issue. I've noticed the same behaviour on two Macs with 10.5.6.

If I open a folder (in list view) with lots of images, it seems the icon previews are not all generated. If I close and re-open the folder, all the icons are generated.

If I am in Icon view or column view, I do not see this problem.

The images are on an external FW800 drive btw.
