Hey guys, I'm thinking about getting the Dell Ultrasharp 27" (http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/a-great-27-inch-lcd-monitor/).

One question: if I want to use the USB functionality on the Dell, would I simply use a MDP<->HDMI converter to plug my Macbook Pro into the Dell, and plug USB inputs (e.g. mouse, keyboard) into the monitor to make use of the USB function? Would I have to install drivers? Not sure how this works, thanks.

from the specs.
USB 3.0 Hi-Speed Hub (with 1 USB upstream port and 4 USB downstream ports)

you'll need to run a USB cable from the computer to the monitor.

if you want everything with one cable from your computer to the monitor. you need thunderbolt, as display port and HDMI only carry the video signal.

and i would go mini display port to display port, so you get full resolution on the monitor.
