About to purchase new MBA before black friday runs out in a few hours in UK ,what I dislike the most is fan noise.

Which of the new versions setups is best for eliminating fan noise, which is quieter.

Can someone run a test to see if you can watch HD and full HD without fan noise after a few minutes.

Would appreciate answer from those who have the machine.

I am thinking 13 inch as 11 looks cool but screen too small and tiny fonts/res.

I have had my 13 inch MBA for a month and have yet to hear its fan run, in stark contrast to my MBP, whose fans often spin up to nearly 6,000 RPM, which is, to say the least, loud. Better yet the MBA generates far less heat than the MBP does.

I've watched 720p content without an issue on a 13" MacBook Air (2.13GHz 4GB).

If silence is key the base 11 is the one. Even the 1.6 probably still quiet.

With the 13 when browsing is next to silent but when the fan kicks in you can hear it.

The 11" is definitely quieter, 'cause it's for a ULV CPU that needs 1/2 the power (and therefore generates less heat) than the LV CPU of the 13" Model.

Depends on what you mean by "HD Video". Quicktime 1080p? It should work. The fans may spin up a bit.

If you're talking about MKV's and Flash/Youtube at 1080p, I can guarantee you there isn't an Apple Portable out there that won't have it's fans spinning up.

Got my 13.3" MBA Ultimate, yesterday now, and I was running the battery down playing 1080p YouTube videos, etc. I think I heard the fan briefly but it wasn't really noticeable as far as I am concerned. Seems to be a very quiet machine to me.

Cheers,

jahman

I can hardly hear my 13 MBA's fan noise when there is no other noises. So imo, it is not disturbing.
