how do I make VLC my default player so that when I click on a video it automatically opens it with VLC instead of Quicktime...I am sure this is going to be something really simple I just can t figure it out..

Click on a file that you want to open in VLC. Hit Command-I or choose Get Info from the right-click menu. Under the "Open with" section, choose VLC then click the "Change all..." button and confirm. Your system will then use VLC for all files of that type.

Choose the file (any file of the type) you want to open in VLC, bring up the Info window (cmd-I or File -> Get Info), under Open With: choose VLC, then click the Change All... button. Edit: Too slow on method 1...

Repeat for other file types (or mark several different filetypes and use opt-cmd-I to open the Multiple Item Info window, then choose VLC and press Change all from that window).
