I have 2 choices of Macbooks to buy tonight, seeing what y'all think is better:

1. Macbook 2,1 Mid 2007
2.16 C2D processor
2GB RAM
160GB HDD
No warranty
$400

2. Macbook Mid-2009
2.13 C2D Processor
4GB RAM
250GB HDD
Nvidia 9400m
Applecare until Feb 2013
$650

What do you guys think?

Number 2 is certainly the better deal.

Yeah thats what I was thinking, especially because of the warranty

The extended warranty (ACP) is worth the extra $250 in itself.

I don't know your usage pattern well enough to tell if the +90 GB of disk space and +2 GB of RAM makes any difference or not for you - but it does make a difference to the resale value anyway. So you can see that as a bonus.

This will be my computer for a year while I am deployed so honestly really just using it for internet and movies... maybe very light gaming.

I was going economical but #2 just seems like such a good deal, especially when the way these are prone to cracking.

If it makes a difference, #2 has a speck case and docking station too

to me the HD is too small on the first one and the first one IS almost 4 years old. Between the 4GB of RAM, HD, and Apple Care you have a MUCH BETTER RESALE value if you choose to sell it in a year....and if not, you have a decent machine that will last several years longer! All that for only $250 more!!!

Option 2. Less worries abut its remaining life, higher resale value, warranty, bigger/faster hard drive - all for a $250 price difference. No comparison.

Think Value not Price!!!

Thanks for the help guys. Before I buy this, would you recommend this deal or is there something better out there? I do not want to spend more than $650

With 4Gb of RAM and Applecare it is a great deal. The only thing that would make it better is if it was a late 2009 instead of an early 2009 MB. The difference is in the backlit LED screen of the Oct 2009 models which are significantly better than the May 2009 models - the color gamut was also improved by about 60%. Plus, those models had the latest trackpad design - I think, but that might have been introduced in the earlier model. MBP's got the new and improved LED's in June 2009. So keep that in mind.

You are right about the LED screens but I am having trouble finding one of those used for under $650 with AppleCare

Thanks for the input guys. I purchased #2 and it is in pristine shape! Coconut battery said there have been only 6 load cycles. Nice

You get what you pay for. Both are equally good in the same way. #1 costs less, but you don't get the warranty, smaller hard drive, and less processor and ram.

#2 comes with a warranty, bigger HDD, more ram and a slightly faster processor.

In all the second one would look like a better deal if you add up the costs of upgrading the HDD, ram, and adding in the purchase of a warranty.

Gotta love craigslist :)
