Intuit today announced the forthcoming release of QuickBooks 2011 for Mac, the company's financial management software for small businesses. The new version, set to ship on September 27th, brings a number of enhancements to the software package.
The software meets the needs of expanding small businesses with new multi-user options and the ability to set user permissions - the most-requested features by previous QuickBooks for Mac users. With the ability to delegate important accounting tasks to others in the company, small business owners can focus on driving their businesses forward.

QuickBooks 2011 for Mac also features new reports and tools to help users track job-related mileage so they can claim the tax write-offs they deserve. Users can also customize reports and forms to reflect their brands and to show the exact data they need to show.
Among the time-saving enhancements touted for QuickBooks 2011 are mileage tracking for auto-related business expenses, expanded sorting options for financial registers, and support for data export to Excel and Numbers. The update also brings several refinements for customization of forms, including a layout designer for applying editable ready-made templates and Mac-like tools to assist with the customization process.

QuickBooks 2011 for Mac will launch on September 27th at a suggested price of $229.95 for a single-user license, with multi-user licensing packages also available.

These "enhancements" have been in the windows version for years and years. Intuit has never given mac users anything but crumbs.

Pretty much every version of Quicken ever released on a Mac has been terrible. I do not expect this to change.

thats great but.....

How about an update for Quicken? any word out there, I can't find anything. Otherwise I am buying iBank.

Totally. I worked in an Arthouse that was 95% Mac and the only people who didn't have it where those using Quick Books. Was rather annoying!

I'm really hopeful about this update actually. I hope there is PC compatibility as well, and I may switch our PC QB users over to Macs.

The feature that would really seal the deal for us, would be support for remote VPN access as well. I've managed to get it to work but it's not officially supported and rather risky, although some competitor companies do support this feature. If they added this and the PC compatibility, our company would buy it right up.

I know that it's embarrassing, but I'm excited.

Although, I have been here before... A great piece of software makes it to the Mac and then it is an utter disappointment, taking years to catch up with the Windows version. :(

Anyway, I also want Winamp on my Macs!

Time saving feature

The only time saving feature I am interested in is being able to easily and quickly move from Windows version to the Mac version. If Intuit doesn't provide that, then forget it.

I feel gullible

After many years of being away from Intuit products, I came back to Quickbooks when my wife's office needed accounting. With the number of employees it made sense to enroll in Intuit's payroll service, along their merchant credit card processing. What a mistake! The payroll service is an online service (not built into the program itself) so it has no integration with QuickBooks. I was astounded to learn that I still have to manually enter the payroll entries into the accounting software (unless you want to use their useless default "payroll tax" entries). Their service does little more than calculate the tax deductions, and tell you how much to write the checks for (and there are other online services that will do that for you for next to nothing). I do as much, or more, manual accounting work as I did before.

The merchant credit card account started out okay (at least it IS integrated into the software), but for some reason Intuit has chosen to deduct the piddly little discount charges for every customer transaction instead of one big monthly deduction like almost everyone else. As a result, I end up with dozens and dozens of tiny accounting entries every week that have to be manually entered. This has been a nightmare, and results in a lot of mistakes.

Needless to say, I'm getting my wife's office OFF of Quickbooks at year's end.

I ran QuickBooks SimpleStart in a Windows VM when I started my business a couple of years ago because I couldn't find any Mac bookkeeping software. It's probably the worst piece of software I've ever used but it took about two months for me to get completely fed up with it – the final straw was when an Intuit salesperson phoned me to ask if I wanted to upgrade because "SimpleStart is just a taster of the full version".

Since there was still no Mac alternative, I tried a couple of online services and soon discovered FreeAgent. Now I can access my accounts from any computer, scan and upload receipts, track my time and expenses, generate invoices and automatically reconcile bank statements. I love it, my accountant loves it and I can't recommend it highly enough to anyone who's freelancing or running a small business.

You can sign up for a free 30 day trial and, if you use this referral link, we both get 10% off the (very reasonable) subscription fee:

Yours sincerely,
A very satisfied FreeAgent customer :)

My experience with Quickbooks for the Mac was a complete and utter disaster!

I was transferring data from the PC version and the two platforms, although 'claimed by Intuit' to be 'compatible' stretched the word 'compatible' to the breaking point.

Everything was a mess when it was converted to the Mac version. It arbitrarily truncated descriptions and item names at some freakish length and simply tossed several records and did not bother to warn me that it suicided such 'trivial' items as invoice payments and even invoices. As a result I had items that the descriptions meant nothing to me and clients who all of the sudden owed me big money from years back.

I went back to the PC and had an issue where I would still lose records occasionally. I finally broke down and called support (I did under the Mac version and was told that I had to purchase a 'contract' because the issues that was having weren't covered by the complimentary support) and was told that the Mac version was 'garbage' and that it was a mistake to convert anything to that version. I was told this time that my proof of missing records and that the backup program was deleting records was 'crazy' and 'impossible' and I tried to move to Peachtree (and they claimed 'free' conversion support and that the PC version of QuickBooks I was using was 'supported' for conversion). That turned into a disaster too as their 'free' conversion support morphed into yet another support contract request and I tossed them over the side (and continue to be harassed by Sage to update the software I never ended up being able to use).

I will buy this version the day the day that the CEO shows up on my door with a copy and sits and actually installs the software and checks the data to make sure that I haven't again freaked my data up.

On an aside, I did upgrade to the 2010 version of QuickBooks and *most* of the issues that I have had seem to be 'solved', or at least I don't have records deleting themselves during the backup process as with the earlier version.

Intuit appears to suffer from the sickness that every other software company does: creepy Indian tech support and an over abundance of offers for pie-in-the-sky support promises and products that just don't deliver. Well, and the Mac and PC software treat each other like viruses...

I was P_I_S_S_E_D!!!! I'm somewhat calmer now...

Quickbooks [HA HAaa] is a complete waste of time if your using the so called UK version

support is non existant
support attitude is F.U.

the company i support has now switched to another company that fully supports the UK as FIRST option and is more than happy with the change

3 times as expensive but as they say , 'you get what you pay for'
and support is first class
couldnt be more helpful

glad to see them adding more features, but i don't have a need for this software yet. and at that price, only those that really need it will buy it

it won't happen, but I wish Apple would release a good financial product with iWork. That can connect into bank accounts, Export to turbo tax/tax cut.
