First off I’d like to say that I have been using a Quickertek transceiver on my 15” Powerbook for many years. When I was on the mainland there was no other way to get roving WiFi reception in a motor home. I have been in a town that has free Internet hanging from the light posts. Alone the Powerbook would pick up nothing, Quickertek held the keys to the highway.

The cheap plastic mount only lasted a few years and the connecting cord was replaced twice. But you must understand, without Quickertek I would have had no reception at all. It still works fine in every way.

The new transceiver has two antennas for “802.11 N Draft 2.0.” The original worked on the WiFi signal itself. This meant that we could keep track of the connection in the menu bar or with the wonderful Wireless Grapher widget in Dashboard. These familiar aids do not work on the new transceivers. It looks to me like the WiFi signal feeds a personal Apple USB Ethernet network.

Quickertek has an excellent customer service. I like particularly that they respond on weekends. The mount is now Velcro. The online video makes installation a breeze. Use the latest software from the site, don’t confuse things using the enclosed CD.

The driver smiled, when he lost the car in pursuit.
