I have this BT audio adapter for my home stereo system that's always on and doesn't pair automatically with the phone (which is fine, as it shouldn't). Is there a way to create a shortcut for quickly connecting to it?

I found this:
...but honestly can't tell what "Playback Destination" is (there's no item with a similar name in my iOS language version) and configuring Shortcuts seems to be really confusing. I have 23 years of experience with consumer electronics but just can't put my finger on this thing.

I don't understand why you wouldn't keep it paired but disconnected when not needed and then simply connect to it when you want to use it.

My apologies, I meant "doesn't connect automatically". It IS paired per se. I can't have it connected all the time because a) notification sounds b) it obviously disconnects when I'm out and then doesn't reconnect automatically.

Yes, I know you can *quickly* connect to a BT device by holding the BT icon in the drop-down tray etc., but that's not that fast IMHO. We're in 2022 and there should be a way to do it with a single press or even a Siri command.

you can use or incorporate »Set Audio Output« via ShortCuts - since iOS/iPadOS15 🤓

get the name of your audio device from the list in the BT settings, enter it in the Shortcut - replace the default “iPhone” (or “iPad”) -, save it under a different name, use Siri or pin it to the menu bar. 😎
