QuickOffice and iWork 09

I purchased QuickOffice and wrote a short essay on my iPhone. I emailed it to myself to test before I submitted to my online teacher. I was unable to open the .doc file in Pages. I changed a few settings in QuickOffice and was still unable to open the file as .docx

Am i missing something?

I don't have QuickOffice, but see if it saves as RTF format, which can be opened in a very large number of Word processors.
