Quickpwn and signal strenght issues related?

I have a jailbroken 2G iphone (used quickpwn), and I must say it has a TERRIBLE signal always. I´ve noticed that all my friends who have 2G iphones with 2.x firmware have the same signal strength issues (all of them used quickpwn). I´ve noticed also that 2G iphones with 1.1.4 have FAR better signal. So I made a little research and found some rumors that is related with quickpwn. Any one has an idea of what´s going on? (This signal issues disapear when I get out of my city wich happens have lots of mountains, but still that dosen´t explain why 1.1.4 has better reception )
