I bought a used iphone3g which was on o2 (payg)kinda sucked as I was on vodafone UK, was a big noob and went on reading about jailbreaking which would enable me to use all carriers. Thought brilliant and as I was new to the iphone I rushed and installed Blackra1n (never knew what firmware i was originally using). It worked and has worked for a few months. Whilst in a lecture I turned it off and it crashed while turning it off, I left it hoping it would go off but it stayed on so I pressed menu and power which shut it off. I restored it to 3.1 and it would rejailbreak. I have since restored all the way to iPhone1,2_2.0.1_5B108_Restore
Then used quickpwn 2.2 to rejailbreak it as someone advised me it might be bricked and quickpwn would be the best option. It installed like all the others but like all the others I get a working iphone but no carrier list or options in settings, it cannot find my simcard, top left I will either get a small signal or NO SERVICE. I really need help here. The phone was 2nd hand when I bought it,so warrenty wont help. There are no stores near me that fix apple devices. All help will be appreciated

I have tried that and have had no luck, am at wits end, very unsure what to do, I'd ask a friend or someone who knows about iphone but I do not know anyone with an iphone. Also you say jailbreaking doesnt open all carriers am getting no info of carriers

This is what I get, no service and no sign of carriers even with different sims in, jail broken using redsnow and quickpwn

see if you can upgrade your firmware to 3.12 then jailbreak it from there. Check iclarify site to find a place to download 3.12 firmware. Once you can do that, you can easily jailbreak and unlock it with Blackra1n.

You don't seem to understand: there are two different processes we're talking about here. Jailbreaking is the process of modifying your firmware so that your file system can be accessed and unsigned code can be installed on your phone. Unlocking is the process of modifying your iPhone's baseband (a.k.a. Modem Firmware) to allow it to work with any GSM carrier. The tools you have talked about (redsn0w, blackra1n, and the antiquated quickpwn) only do the first step (i.e., they jailbreak your phone). They do not unlock your phone. Only an official carrier SIM will work with your phone until it is unlocked.

You need to upgrade your phone to 3.1.2, re-jailbreak either with redsn0w or with blackra1n, and install blacksn0w. Blacksn0w is the unlock for your phone's baseband. Until your phone is both jailbroken and unlocked, you will get no carrier signal.

Please note: if your phone has ever been upgraded to 3.1.3, then your baseband has been upgraded to the new 05.12.01 version. That version cannot currently be unlocked, so even installing blacksn0w will not unlock such a phone. You can find out your baseband version at Settings > General > About > Modem Firmware.
