I'm having a problem with sound in OS 9 on my main Quicksilver(dual 1ghz, 1.5gb RAM).

I bought this particular computer with the factory restore disks, and used the factory OS 9 disk for the install on this computer.

Basically, during boot-up and within the first few seconds of running, the sound works fine-I get the "platinum" clicks when clicking on menus or the desktop or wherever.

It will also make a "click" when the control strip starts to load, but this is the last sound the computer makes.

I'm guessing there's an extension problem or conflict that gets loaded and causes the sound to go away, but I'm at a loss as to what it is.

Any ideas of what could be going on?

are there any X's on extensions as they load?

Hold shift on startup and see if the extensions not loading allow sound.

If so mute is on or its an extension conflict. Thats why they made conflict catcher decades ago.

No extensions X out on loading.

Booting without extensions does keep the sound working.

As I said, it seems to quit right about the time the control strip loads.

As I don't have a huge amount of time invested in OS 9 on this system, I'm wondering if I should try a clean install off the restore disk.
