Quicktime 7.4 for Windows loads a random three letter process

I a trying to evaluate a problem with a process that gets loaded whenever I open a .MOV file in Quicktime v7.4 for Windows. The process is invisible but always has either two or three alphanumeric characters and an extension of .exe The only way to "see" the process is to try and log off the machine. The system tries to close the process before exiting. Loading an .MP4 file with Quicktime does not spawn the process. Any ideas?
