I have also upgraded to iLife 08. No problems here. Everything that played in the QuickTime Player before plays now. This includes .avi files. You must be reminded, however, that .avi is not a video format. It is a media container which may hold video and audio tracks which are handled by any of several codecs. Do you have any idea which codecs were used to produce the tracks in your problematic videos? If you can't open them in the QuickTime Player, you may be able to open them in VLC. VLC will identify the audio and video codecs.

Try reinstalling Perian. I know that updating QuickTime to 7.2 can cause this issue.

thanks, VLC plays em all fine....and they're probably divx files..in an AVI container..

I'll go back and mess around with perian. But again, the avi containers do open but it takes 50 x longer now...

sigh...
maybe another restart will fix er up.....
