For any material I'm using in iMovie I first set 'Video Format' to DV in iMovie's 'Create a New Project' opening box. Everything I do is then DV-PAL.
Exporting to QT provides options. 'Full Quality' produces a .dv QT file which I have been using (but an old forum entry says don't use Full Quality, but gives no reason!).
However, in 'Expert Settings' there are many choices such as 'Movie to DV Stream' which produces an identical same size .dv file, or another is Quicktime Movie. This is also a DV-PAL file (provided you've made the correct 'Options' settings) but, as said, .mov is twice the file size of .dv
The question is: Is .mov therefore containing more info even though also DV? Can't seem to get a satisfactory answer anywhere.
Pixellation problem: This appears in QT playback window (actual size, not full screen) whether .dv or .mov files. It's only slight but seen in, for example, title lettering and can be 'cleaned up' by going to QT Player> Window> Show Movie Properties> Video Track> Visual Settings> and checking the 'High Quality' box.
That improves it enormously and is OK for a one-off playback, but if it has actually enhanced the DV quality(?) and you want to save it, QT saves it double size as a .mov.
So, has the file quality actually been improved, or, as DV is DV, is it just a visual playback trick.
These issues are where I'm confused with the QT variants. I just want the cleanest least compressed version as a master file. Please advise.
