I'm having trouble trying to play a .avi file in QuickTime. When I try to play it QT will not open it, and just gives the error that "QuickTime cannot open ....avi because the end of file was reached prematurely."

I have the latest versions of divx and 3vix plug-ins installed, and other similar .avi files play fine in quicktime. If I try to open this file in VLC, it will play for about 40 seconds and then VLC will either unexpectedly quit, or give an error message about access.

Any ideas?

Probably haven't got the complete movie clip, if not try opening using VLC
He did try, did you finish reading his post? Whatever, I also think, that the file is probably incomplete.

The symptoms are certainly the same as I see when the video clip is incomplete. If VLC is crashing, it's also possible that the file is corrupt midway; try clicking on the position slider somewhere a ways past where it dies at 40 seconds in and see if it plays from there. If so, the file is probably corrupt. If not, there probably just isn't anything after 40 seconds.
