quicktime incompatibility

I recently updated an old G3 to OSX 10.4.9. I have a firewire peripheral (magnafire digital microscope camera) that will no longer connect with its software after the upgrade. The peripheral maker (optronics) no longer supports it and recommends downgrading to quicktime 7.0.1. As far as I can tell this is not possible unless I want to go back to 10.3, which is not possible for other reasons I won't get into...

Is it possible to downgrade quicktime 7.1 to 7.0.1 without downgrading the OS?

Any other ideas?
