When I go to use QuickTime I open a file I get the one I am opening and the previous file I viewed... Any ideas on what is going on???

Do I have to close the file I have viewed and then shut QuickTime down??

Not really sure what is happening...

I am using OSX 10.7.3 On a dual core 2 duo mini...

Since Lion is so kind to reopen documents, that were open when you quit the application, it kindly reopens them upon reopening the application. In order to get rid of that, you have to close all open documents and windows of that application, if you plan to quit that application and don't want any of the old documents reopen, once you reopen the application again.
That generalisation applies to QuickTime Player as well as other applications.
