Hi Guys -- I tried to search this forum for similar threads but couldn't - so please excuse if i'm posting a duplicate thread.

Okay, I can't play 99% of the videos/movies in quicktime. I get codec error (attached screen shot)

This has been there for a long time, but since I could play using other player - VLC, i never really bothered.
Now i need the quicktime player to convert movies into iFormats for iPod/iPhone - and that's the easiest way i know, from quicktime.

I have tried installing the codecs etc - doesn't work. What gives?

This may be as old as the time since i upgraded to OSX lion
Thanks in advance.

To solve your QT-problem:
Download and install Perian, then make sure that QuickTime X runs as a 32-Bit application (click the attachment).

To convert your videos to iDevice compatible formats, use either HandBrake or iFFmpeg. QuickTime is a possibility, but probably not the best quality/speed.

It just works!

Excellent and it was a breeze.
Thanks Mr. Retrofire & iLog.Genius
Perian did the job for me -- now QT is playing the videos. for conversion will follow your instructions.
