If I right mouse click on the Quicktime Player icon in the Dock, it pops up a bunch of stuff that is baffling me. In my screenshot, you can see 5 sections. The top section and the one below it are a bit confusing so wondered if someone knows what each represents.

Also, in the second from top section, there is one checkmark and two diamond icons. Any idea what those are for?

I just wanted to add that the list of recent files and the diamond & checkmark should work for any running app. For example, TextEdit or Preview should have similar lists for their recent and open docs.

I think the recent-list started in Lion or Mtn Lion. The diamond and checkmark have existed for as long as I can recall.

The number of recent items is controlled in System Preferences / Settings. It's the same number for all apps.
