hi all,

i dont seem to be able to play .avi flies in quicktime pro. it comes up in the quicktime box, with a white screen and a message coming up saying that some required software is missing. i click ok, and quicktime takes me to this apple website where the names of several 3rd party codec companies are listed. link below:

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html

im not sure which codec i have to download when i get to this website.

does anybody have any guidance as to what i need to have in order to play .avi's?

(i have quicktime pro and VLC, which the video plays perfectly in FYI)

thanks

S

AVI is just a container format (like QuickTime). You need to know what codec was used to encode the content within the AVI. Likely candidates are probably DIVX and XVID.

Download and install the DivX 6 codec.
