I used to have Safari set up so that if I clicked a .mpg link in Safari, instead of opening up the movie in the browser winder, it would automatically download to my harddrive, and then open up in VLC (which is my default program for movies). Somehow that setting has been lost, and now movies are playing in the browser instead of being downloaded. Anyone know how to get them to download automatically? I've fooled around with the MIME settings in System Preferences, but nothing has worked.

Might be a browser setting instead - have you checked the preferences in the browser you're using?
