quicktime slow in opening videos.

everytime i open a new avi or movie file on mac,it takes a while to open up.
any reason? the Os has all the current updates.
I noticed my system very sluggish too although i have leopard with a fresh install.unless its vmware thats running win2k in the background??thats causing it?

VMWare takes up a lot of RAM, especially if you let it. I'd suggest closing it unless you actively need it.
