Quicktime software

Of late my Quicktime player has thrown up a lot of "Quicktime requires additional software..." type messages but never tells me what I need. Does anyone know how I can find out?

You need to check the original video files codec-Quicktime/window/show movie info.

From there you will probably need to do some googling to find the correct codec.

How do I find that out? I know how in windows but haven't figured it out on a Mac yet.
EDIT: Sorry yeah, taht show info gives me the video, but not the audio and it's the audio that's proving the issue.
