QuickTime support AVI?

I'm trying to help this guy out with his QuickTime (on his PC). He his having trouble playing an AVI file; like it says that it needs some needed software or something. Can QuickTime play AVI files? (I'm not even sure what AVI means....)

Yes, it can, but you have to download the appropriate plugins. I think you can find them on divx.com or VersionTracker.

The 3ivx component plays most AVI formats.
