Apparently you can't use the split keyboard and still get QuickType. This seems pretty godawful. What's the thinking behind that design choice?

Sorry if I missed an existing thread somewhere...

Possibly because the split keyboard is mainly for thumb typing on the sides and it would be hard to select suggestions like that or to display them with the keyboard split into two smaller pieces.

They could keep the exact same strip of suggestions as they do when the keyboard isn't split. And the words wouldn't be any farther away just because the keyboard is split.

Do many people type on the iPad like a real keyboard when the keyboard isn't splt?

Not sure, but the dynamic for split keyboard is probably somewhat different than what is likely the main idea of holding the iPad with both hands and using thumbs to type on it on each side.
