Also, if I get a Raptor for a boot drive, how noisy will that be?

It's 29dB at Idle and 36dB under operation per WD's specs. How that relates to other drives, you'd need to view.

I thought Tom's Hardware showed noise in their HDD comparisons, but I didn't see it.

Samsung are typically the quietest but the western Digital are better performers even the non raptors!! I've just got a Western Digital WD3200AAKS and it flies compared to the Seagate I had in before. It's pretty quiet although not as quiet as the Samsung.
