“Annoyed” isn’t really the right word. “Pissed” is more accurate.

I use my iPad more than my other devices so Liquid Glass on iPad OS seems more apparent. Also I haven’t yet upgraded mu M3 iMac to Tahoe yet—I’m holding off on that for now.

Functionally 26 and 18 don’t seem too different, but I really don’t like the look of iPad OS 26. I’ve dealt with the transparency element of 26 by turning the effect as far down as possible. But all those overly rounded corners are really annoying and feel so force-fit, like trying to push a square peg into a round whole only here they’re pushing roundness where it feels out of place. I particularly dislike the new Safari tab windows when you want to jump to a new page. This elongated thing with rounded ends just looks wrong and it stays there when you click to the new page. It’s so refreshing to go back to Safari in Sequoia on my iMac.

It’s a small thing, but strikes me as indicative of the mindset behind this—change for the sake of something different rather than for something better, which it’s not.

A lot of UI used over the decades has mimicked sheets of paper with sharp corners, such as the preview box or window I’m typing this post in. This follows centuries of people using paper…with straight edges and sharp corners. It nicely fits our mindset. Now Liquid Glass throws all that intuitiveness away for the sake of something kewl, but isn’t nearly as effective as what was already established.

A new concept should be able to convey the sense of, “Ah, this is good. Why didn’t anyone do this before?” Instead we have WTF!
