Hey All,

Just got a brand spanking new base model iMac 21.5" and just love it.

Except that it keeps locking up.

It has happened 6 or 8 times in the week I've had it and -- if I remember correctly -- every incident was related to quitting an iLife application. Just now with Garageband.

Everything stops, pointer won't move -- has happened with both magic mouse and trackpad -- Force Quit yields no response. Powering down is the only solution.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you advance!

Forgot to mention -- running Snow Leopard not Lion.

Froze again last night for no apparent reason.

Was sitting idle for an hour or so with Firefox open, only two tabs.

Screen saver is set on Never, sleep is on Never

That was it, went to move the pointer and it froze. I let it sit for 30 min or so to see if it would come out of it but it never did.

Was it shipped with Snow Leopard?
It is either a hardware fault or a faulty driver (which could occur by installing SL on a machine provided with Lion).

Yes, I bought it at Best Buy and have not changed a thing other than adding Firefox, software updates, and installing iWork 09 (was freezing before install).

Currently running OSX 10.6.8

iTunes definitely causing problems with freeze up. I just spent an hour turning my iMac on and off after freezeups -- all after opening iTunes.
