I can’t seem to find this answer so if there’s another post or article please let me know.

Does the new SE (2022) have a qwerty keyboard you can swipe on that was introduced on the Series 7?

I am in the same boat. Went to the Apple Store last week and asked two employees this question. They swore the new watchOS 9 would provide a full QWERTY keyboard on the new SE. Ordered the new SE and picked it up yesterday. Tried to pair it to my phone and it required me to upgrade to iOS 16. I had been hesitating from doing that because it would break my Work apps since my company has not certified iOS 16 yet. Went ahead anyway and upgraded then paired the watch. No built-in QWERTY keyboard on the new SE. Apparently Apple has decided they want to keep that feature for people who spend more. I hate that I have to try buying some apps to see if they will fit the bill.

Apparently Apple doesn't even allow 3rd party keyboards to integrate with its apps so it doesn't appear you can use an app to provide a keyboard in Messages on Apple Watch. Pretty disappointing.

Fwiw I gave up on the SE 2 and picked up a discounted series 7 specifically because it has the on screen keyboard.
