My girlfriend noticed that the R key doesn't "expand/zoom" when you press it like the other buttons do (when typing in Safari). All of the other keys seem to work just fine, it's only the R that doesn't. I reset my phone and thought that'd help but it didn't. And my phone isn't jailbroken or anything, I keep it updated with the latest version as well.

Any ideas?

I've noticed the same problems, but with random letters. It seems the longer I type the more letters stop working properly. Sometimes up to five or so letters at a time. It's really annoying.

Unfortunately she figured it out yesterday because on Friday we were in St. Louis, where the nearest Apple store is! If I had known about it and that it was an issue for several other people, then I would have brought it to their attention and hoped to get a replacement, (there are a few other things that I could probably get a new one for anyways).

This is a software issue and you won't get a replacement for it. Now my "I" key works, but the "T" key is on the fritz.

Same problem on my 2g touch . Didn't start happening till the last update . And for me it's random letters .

Restoring it would probaly help but make sure to back up everything first! As i. Typing this i. Having problems with my a and r buttons

Restoring doesn't help, it's a 2.2 bug, it's pretty random on mine, even after many restores, it's usually the S, sometimes other letters or all of them. Since it bugs me so much and I just got another new phone as a replacement for quality control related issues, I'm keeping 2.0.2, felt faster and safari felt even snappier/more stable till now, didn't really get to test it well enough though. Waiting for 2.3 or 2.2.1, whichever comes first.
I did also report the bug on the apple support site, you should probably do the same. 2.2 has the suckiest safari for me:)

It's definitely a 2.2 bug. Switch to the "123" section of the keyboard and back... then the letters will pop up again. This is the only solution that I found that works. Don't restore or return your iPhone... it's not going to help.

Sorry, I don't even have an R "key"....I just have electronic images of letters/symbols.

Are you referring to "keys" on a BlackBerry?
