R9 m290x = hd 8970m

Reading on ExtremeTech "Analyzing the iMac 5K Retina display", we find that the R9 M290X (included in the new Retina iMac) is a rebranded Radeon HD 8970M.

Q: Would a Radeon HD 8970M be supported by Mac OS? If so, in which versions? 10.10 only, or earlier releases too?

Just found out from Netkas' site that it would be, as device id 0x6801 is in AMD7000Controller.kext

Yup just rebadged. Almost same as the 7970m as well i believe.
