Finally getting around to planning my hardware expansion and am in need of 2 3.5 HHD sata rack mount enclosures that will handle the software RAID function in OSX. anyone have thoughts and suggestions. I have looked at SANS Digital, the offerings from OWC and some off brands from newegg and overstock.
Now, thoughts on the hardware RAID vs the software RAID in OSX? which is better? I'm going to be using one enclosure for multimedia and the other as a time machine/multimedia backup/archive.
could I use one enclosure of 4 bays 2 drives for multimedia and the other 2 for backups? in 2 seperate raid setups.
Thoughts please. and if you need more info let me know.
The CPU i'm using is a 5,1 Mac Pro. I have thought about limiting my external enclosures by moving my OS to a SSD on a velocity 2 card, and using the 4 internal drives for Media and the external solution for backups of all the internal drives/SSD
