Radio interference from the iPhone when accessing 3G network

When my phone is accessing the 3G network, the portable FM radio that I have starts getting static. Is that normal? When the phone stops accessing the network, the static goes away.

Sorry for a naive question but I have to ask.

This is normal, but it shouldn't be very loud, especially compared to connecting to EDGE. Try turning 3G off and see what it sounds like.
