ok so everything works fine, and then when i go to install cydia, i enter my phones ip address. (found in settings under wifi> the (i) icon > ip address) and i enter that when prompted, and it says it can't connect, and press a key to continues where i am taken back to the main terminal screen. from there, if i try to boot tethered, it just boots it into a recovery loop, and i can only get out if i restore. any help? i tried this with opensn0w a while back and had the same issue.

Why not use a program like redsn0w or evasion to install Cydia instead of terminal? (Depending on iOS version)
