All over the place
My searches haven't turned up much. I have four drives, two 2 TB sata and two 3 TB sata. I'd like to mirror each set with RAID 1

I had no problem setting up the raid for the two 3 TB's but the 1st of the 2 TB set has the mac os on it. Can I clone the OS drive to an external and boot from it somehow? How do I get around this?

Thanks!

If you create a mirror out of drives with data on them, it will be wiped out.

To do what you want however, use the following:
  1. Make a clone of the OS to a separate disk.
  2. Change the boot location to the new clone.
  3. Reboot.
  4. Create the Mirror set using the desired drives.
