Here are the requirements

1. OSX Leopard Support
2. 4 channel SATA min (8 would be nice)
3. PCI or PCI-X
4. Has to cost less than a Drobo or similar NAS.

I already have 4 750GB drives and i want to do a RAID 5 in my powermac (2x1Ghz g4) file server.

Newegg.com has the ROCKETRAID 2220 for $239. Can the community do better?

Thanks

I am trying to build a NAS, and saw your post. You also want to make sure your power supply in that G4 can handle those 4 drives. I am sure it can, but may be tasking it.

The powermac is a server class desktop, so i hope the PSU is strong enough. I will double check. I think its about 250 or 300 watts and the chasey has 4 drive bays.

I will probably get the raid car August 1st. Unless someone can recommend a better card for the pricepoint.

My 5 year old server has a 450 watt power supply. 250 - 300 is close to my $400 Dell desktop. Not to sound rude, but 250 - 300 watts is not really server class. I found one place that says they have a 360 or 400 watt power supply.

I actually used that same card, the 2220, in a MDD G4, stock PSU, and modded the case to get 8 hard disks in it. No problems, except that it was a MDD and that meant it was loud. sigh.

Question for ya. What RAID setup are you using? I was planning on RAID5 but wanted to know if it would be expandable. Could i add another 750gb drive in a year to gain some more space?
