RAID 5 setup problems

I'm trying to connect a Sans Digital MR5CT1 that's set up as a RAID 5. I used 5 x 1.5tb drives, so it should be 6tb capacity. It's connected through firewire 800, but OSX only reads it as 1.5tb. Tech support at Sans Digital wasn't any help, and Apple support said it's possible that OSX wouldn't recognize a RAID 5 via firewire without special software, but he wasn't sure and couldn't specify what that software was. Any ideas?
