Hi folks,

I have a Quad G5 and wish to upgrade the storage to the fastest possible setup.

Internal controllers are sata1.
I can make a raid0 of two ssd.
Q1: RAID0 will be 2x faster when transferring big files. But for a system drive, will it make a difference? Or will it be worse?

I will be adding a card.
Q2: Which one is the fastest?
Sonnet? Digitus? Firmtek? Silverstone ?
I understand that none will be bootable on the quad g5.
I've read many threads and apparently there is a sata3 card but it is not faster in average than a sata2.
I saw a nvme card that offers 500MB/s but the guy only used it under LinuxI and 'm using my g5 under Tiger and Leopard so I' m wondering.
Q3: do those cards also provide raid 0 capabilities?

Thanks a lot for your answers.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there hasn't been any NVMe driver created for PPC or Tiger or Leopard.

Well I saw a video of a guy using such a card on his g5 and under Linux. But yeah probably not possible under Macos.
Sata2 and sata3 are probably the limits. The ahci compatibility makes a driver not mandatory.
Still looking for the fastest card though.

Leo has an UB AHCI driver but you can't boot from the SSD.

So I boot from a sata1 device.
And there is no nvme driver for leopard.

What is the fastest sata2/3 card for a Quad G5 recognised under leopard (not bootable)?
