As mentioned in the title, I'm looking for a replacement to my OWC Mercury Rack Pro. It had a hardware RAID controller I never used (I used SoftRAID to do a 3 drive RAID 1 mirror and then used one as a Time Machine drive). It's old and stood the test of time but for the 2nd time the power management unit has died even though it's running through a power conditioner / surge protector.

What I'm hoping is someone here knows of a solid enclosure I can trust that is rack mountable, has 4 drives, without a hardware RAID controller (to save some money). I don't need anything fancy other than an enclosure that holds the drives.

I'd prefer Thunderbolt connectivity if possible because I finally upgraded the Firewire 400 (not even 800) to USB 3.0 only to find out mac OS has some kind of drive ejection bug going on that ejects like 10 times a day and stacks up notifications and errors.

Any insight or advice here? I need to order something pronto!

In terms of "search terms" on Google, am I really just looking for a JBOD enclosure since I'll be using a software RAID controller?

Macos ejecting usb drives when going to sleep or wake up depends on usb controllers used in devices.
I guess nobody have collected a list of which work and which don’t…
