Hiya,

I run a RAID5 array, and to test it, I powered down, pulled out a drive SATA cable and rebooted.

I can still access my data. Good. So I powered down, plugged the drive back in (possibly in a different port - that might have been silly) and rebooted.

Ah, rebuilding. Good. Came back a few hours later, and it'd stopped rebuilding. So I checked the logs, and it said 'rebuild failed' elapsed time @ 2hours, with no reason given.

I tried rebuilding again, and the drive LEDs flickered, then stopped. Log showed 'rebuild failed' again, elapsed time about 1 second.

I don't know what's going on. I've tried moving the drive to a different port, and rebuild always fails, sometimes 18%, sometimes 31%. Sometimes requesting that it continue rebuilding gets another couple of minutes or hour of rebuilding, more usually another instafail.

Can anyone help?

System details:
RAID5 system in a powermac G3
Highpoint RocketRaid 2220 SATA RAID card
3x 300GB drives (2 SATA and 1 PATA [with sata/pata convertor])
