RAID recommendation

I am a photographer who is working exclusively from a MacBook and I need to buy some external hard drives. I am thinking a Mirror RAID (2x500 GB) fir the images, and an 80 GB for the main disk. Any suggestions? I would like at least 7200 rmp, and Firewire is a must. It would be super-cool if the 80 GB could back up automatically. Thank you for your help.

If you don't mind spening a bit more, consider a NAS.

I use a Ready NAS NV+ with 4 500GB HD, for a total of 1.2TB Usable. Works fine in OSX, and I have EMC Retrospect backing up unattended everyday at 100am.

Here is a link in Newegg, for the Infrant stuff. I think Netgear bought them out, and now is selling them under the NETGEAR brand. At the time I purchased mine, it was a driveless sytstem, and you added the drives to it.

I thing it's a great piece of hardware, and feature rich.
 
Before the Ready NAS, I had the 500GB version of this drive.

Performed decent, I was always a little concerned about how hot it got though. The cover is plastic with vents, and I did not see any heatsink.

Could you be a little more specific? What problems did you have? I have heard a lot of good and a lot of bad concerning this drive. Most of the complaints seem to be about the noise levels, but I can deal with noise. What makes you wish you didn't buy it?
