RAID1 implementation on iMac with offsite storage

I have 2 questions really. I'm a new convert so please be gentle...

1. I see there is a RAID Utility App but when I click on it I get a window that says it's not supported on this computer. Do I need to buy a system that has RAID1 built in?

2. Here's my ideal solution...I want to get (3) 1TB drives. I want to rotate them monthly so that I always have one stored elsewhere. I don't want to pay a fortune and would like the swap to be pain-free as well.
