rainbow wheel after sleep

Whenever I open my computer back up from sleep the thing always goes to a rainbow wheel for about 30 seconds..The computer is a 2011 2.3GHz 15in 7200rpm HDD. Anything I should look at checking before making and appointment with apple an hour away?
